<em>Centrosema flavescens</em> (Fabaceae, Papilionoideae), a new species from the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

Background: Centrosema (Fabaceae) includes 35-44 species in the New World, 10 Mexico, and 9 Yucatan Peninsula. Most have trifoliolate leaves bicolored flowers. Unifoliolate are an infrequent character that is found a few species, e.g., C. sagittatum (Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willd.) Brandegee, but monochromatic flowers, e.g, lacking nectar guides, even more unusual state. Several populations of from Peninsula share both states, combination sets them apart other members genus.
 Question: Is with unifoliolate leaves, alate petioles, flowers Peninsula, distinct phenetically similar sagittatum?
 Studies species: (Fabaceae, Papilionoideae).
 Study site dates: 2021-2023.
 Methods: Botanical specimens were collected determined taxonomically through use relevant literature, keys, consulting botanical collections. The conservation status new was assessed using IUCN methodology.
 Results: do represent undescribed differs by its smaller, cream-yellow, as Endangered (EN).
 Conclusions: A flavescens proposed. Eleven now recognized nine does not occur peninsula.

Three leptospirosis cases with lung involvement are reported from the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. All three patients were admitted to the intensive care unit due to acute respiratory failure. Treatment with antibiotics resulted in favorable evolution despite the negative prognosis. Leptospirosis should be included in the differential diagnosis of patients with fever and lung involvement.

We performed a serologic investigation to determine whether orthobunyaviruses commonly infect humans in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Orthobunyavirus-specific antibodies were detected by plaque reduction neutralization test in 146 (18%) of 823 persons tested. Further studies are needed to determine health risks for humans from this potentially deadly group of viruses.
